Columbia is a country in northern South America. It is bordered to the northwest by Panama, to the north by the Caribbean Sea, to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, to the south by Ecuador and Peru, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. The capital is Bogota, the largest city of Columbia.




Columbia has a population of approximately 45.74 million. The main ethnic groups are mestizo (58%), white (20%), mulatto (14%), black (4%) and mixed black-Amerindian or Amerindian(4%) while majority of the people (90%) are Roman Catholic.


The official language of Benin is Spanish, which 99.2% of Columbians are able to speak Spanish. The national currency is Peso (COP).


The market economy has been growing steadily in recent years and relies heavily on its rich natural resources, as well as emeralds, since it is known as the world’s leading source of emeralds. The main exports include petroleum, coal, emeralds, coffee, nickel, cut flowers, bananas and apparel. Principal trading partners are the United States, China, Spain, Panama, Venezuela and Netherlands.
