Central Africa


The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It borders Chad in the north, Sudan in the northeast, South Sudan in the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo in the south and Cameroon in the west. The capital is Bangui.



It covers a land area of about 620,000 square kilometers and has an estimated population of about 4.4 million. Fifty percent of the population are Christians, while 35% of the population maintain indigenous beliefs. Islam is practiced by 15% of the country’s population. The Central African Republic’s two official languages are Sangho and French. Like many other former French colonies, the Central African Republic’s legal system is based upon French law.

In economic aspect, agriculture is dominated by the cultivation and sale of food crops such as peanuts, maize, coffee, cotton, sesame and plantain. Besides, this is a country rich in mineral and other resources, such as uranium reserves in Bakouma, crude oil in Vakaga, gold, diamonds, lumber and hydropower, as well as arable land.
