Cameroon, officially the Republic of Cameroon is a country located in the west Central Africa region. It borders the Bight of Biafra. Neighboring countries include Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Nigeria. Cameroon is a member of the African Union (AU) and African Economic Community (AEC).

The population is about 20,000,000, comprised of over 240 tribal groups with three main ethnic groups: Bantus, Semi-Bantus and Sudanese. The main religions include both Christianity and Island, the traditional religion (Animism) is also practiced. The official languages are French and English, although French is dominant. English is most strongly represented in the former British Cameroon region.


The currency in Cameroon is the CFA Franc. Cameroon's per-capita GDP (Purchasing power parity) was estimated as one of the ten highest in sub-Saharan Africa in 2008. Major export markets include France, Italy, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Cameroon is aiming to become an emerging country by 2035.

With an extraordinary range of resources, agriculture is an important component of Cameroon’s economy. The major crops for export and local use include the following: cocoa, coffee, tobacco, cotton and bananas. Timber is also a major industry in Cameroon.
